ATU's background

The African Telecommunications Union (ATU) succeeded the Pan African Telecommunications Union (PATU) on 7th December 1999, as Africa's continental organization to cater for the interests of African Member States and Associate Members. ATU provides a forum for African Governments, as well as public, private and social sector organizations involved in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), to formulate policies and strategies aimed at improving access to information infrastructure and promoting its use as a tool for stimulating economic development and enhancing poverty reduction.

The temporary seat of ATU is in Nairobi, Kenya.
