WORKSHOP ON COSTS ,TARIFFS AND INTERCONNECTION RATES
WINDHOEK , NAMIBIA
15 - 19 JANUARY 2001
A costs and tariffs model developed by African administrations with
significant contribution by the African Telecommunications Union (ATU)
and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will be the principal
subject of a Workshop for the Eastern and Southern African countries,
to be held in Windhoek, Namibia from 15th - 19th January 2001.
The objective of the workshop will be to test the model using telecommunications
investment ,traffic and operational cost data provided by administrations,
to determine tariffs and interconnection rates. This is a new global approach
aimed at meeting the World Trade Organisation (WTO) telecommunications
protocol, designating telecommunications as a traded service and whose
tariffs have to be transparent and cost based. Participants will include
ATU , ITU, and country experts.
