STATEMENT BY THE OUTGOING CHAIRPERSON OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL,
MR. NESTOR MISIGARO,
DURING THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 3RD ORDINARY
SESSION OF THE ATU ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL 2002
Honorable Minister,
Members of the Diplomatic Corps,
Distinguished Guests,
Secretary General of ATU,
Distinguished Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to once more address
this august Assembly at the official opening ceremony of the 3rd Ordinary Session
of the Administrative Council of our Union.
Allow me, on behalf of the Council Members, and
on my own behalf, to extend our gratitude to the Kenya Government, its People
and particularly to the Secretary General and his team, for the warm African
welcome enjoyed since our arrival in this beautiful country, Kenya.
I am convinced, as well as other delegates, that
with such a working environment, our deliberations will be successful.
On behalf of the Council Members, I do thank
you all, Your Excellencies, Honourable Ministers, Ladies and Gentlemen, the
Representatives of Sub-regional, Regional and International Agencies, for your
continued support to ATU, demonstrated through your massive participation.
Your Excellencies, Honourable Ministers,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Lastly, I would like to congratulate the ATU
Secretary General and his able team, for the commendable work done so far, despite
the limited resources available.
To conclude my remarks, I appeal to all ATU Member
States to support the Union in order to achieve its mission and ensure that
the inter-connectivity of African telecommunication networks is implemented,
and that also the continent plays a major role in narrowing the digital divide.
Support is equally needed for the building of the African Information Society.
I wish you successful deliberations during the
3rd Ordinary Session of ATU Administrative Council.
Thank you.
